Pigem on nii, et ainult Internet Explorer ei võimalda. Mozilla Firefoxi all sai küll päris suure osa (ei julge öelda, et kõik) sümbolitest nähtavaks, kuigi font Code2000 väga ilus minu meelest ei ole. --Ker 10:09, 14 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Common gender

How should "common gender" be marked? Swedish has two noun genders (neuter and common), and since you can't see what gender it is unless you're a fluent speaker, it needs to be marked. Should the first letter in the Estonian translation (by the way, what is it?) be used or simply a c? (sorry for the English, but I'm not good enough at Estonian) /Tehvata 19:16, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I have used c though this requires a certain previous knowledge of Swedish grammar. I think you can use c.

I am not sure gender should marked at all in the translations into foreign languages. It definitely should be marked in the articles (subsections) dedicated to Swedish words. There has been some debate about how gender should be marked. I prefer abbreviations not to be used. Andres 20:56, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)

The Estonian word is ühissugu (ühissoost) though it is quite rare. We have used the Latin abbreviations m, n, and f, so c is natural. Andres 20:57, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Yes, that's fully correct. However, I believe that if it's marked on the page dedicated to the word (not on the translations list), it would only be of help to anyone who's interested in knowing it for some reason (studying, for example). Some nouns here at Vikisõnaraamat have Estonian declinations for cases, and that's probably less useful for an Estonian than the marking of gender on Swedish nouns. /Tehvata 21:17, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Of course, on the page dedicated to the word, gender should be marked, as well as morphology, etymology, pronunciation, synonyms and other information (though not translations). What I meant was that in the translations from Estonian to Swedish maybe gender should not be marked (though currently we mark it). Andres 21:30, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)

just for record, I think we should continue be marking genders as well in translations (in estonian word page). It is small and not distracting and gives information to the user. But as Andres said there is still discussion about, so I would suggest to add it (it's always easier to remove) --TarmoK 08:11, 24 Jun 2005 (UTC)
